Children & the Arts hosted a prize giving ceremony and exhibition at Rich Mix in London on Monday 15 May to announce the winners of the Children & the Arts Secondary School Art Prize in partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the winners, runners up and all 30 shortlisted pieces on display that had been whittled down from over 850 entries from secondary school students across London and Essex.
Entrants were invited to submit an original artwork, inspired by the theme ‘Perspective’. They were asked to investigate the world around them: to show the judges their unique perspective or to explore the perspective of someone different to them. Each winner received £500 and £1,000 for their school’s art department.
A panel of nine celebrity judges selected the three winners. Judge, Lady Frances Petchey, said: “Whilst there can only be so many winners I know that finding this wonderful pleasure of painting and drawing will stay with these young people forever. Thank you to everyone who entered the Children & the Arts Secondary School Art Prize, and congratulations to the winners and all on our shortlist”.
